Bushwalkers of Western Australia

Winter

Summer

Walking is a year round activity. Bushwalkers of Western Australia Inc (BOWA) based in Perth has a complete annual programme. In Winter (May to October) longer walks of up to 20km in length are undertaken. These require a full day and most of the information about walking presented here applies to these walks. From time to time the Winter programme will include, for variety, a shorter half day walk.  In Summer members maintain fitness by shorter walks around the Perth environs which are completed before midday. On almost every Sunday of the year it is possible to sample the experience of walking with our club. How do I get started?

Our club has about 60 members. Anyone aged 18 or over is welcome. At present the membership ranges from early middle age upwards.

We welcome visitors who wish to sample the experience of bushwalking. Walking as a visitor is the starting point for prospective members. Important: To minimise risk of COVID19 spread it is club policy that all event participants comply with current government COVID19 recommendations and directives .  (How do I get started?).

Joining our club

To become a full member of Bushwalkers of Western Australia  a prospective member must complete 3 club walks as a visitor in the one calendar year. The walk leader will sign a combined walks record and application form at the end of each walk. This form has entries for all 3 walks. The $5 non-members fee charged on walks becomes the joining fee ($15) at completion of the probationary walks.

Annual Fees are :  $25 single or $45 double for a calendar year.

Fees are used for these expenses:

  • Public liability and personal accident insurance policy for our club.
  • Recurring costs of our web site.
  • Maps which any member may use for walks planning.
  • Membership of associate organisations such as Hike West (The peak body for bushwalking and hiking in WA).
  • AGM and Christmas party expenses.
